The UK currently implements the vehicle fuel efficiency standards of the EU. Recommendations have been made by the Committee on Climate Change that new vehicle fuel efficiency standards of the EU should at least be mirrored under UK laws or that UK should remain in the EU Schemes.

Policy
Implementation of domestic grants for ultra-low emission vehicles including:
- Vehicles which emit less than 50g of CO2/km and can travel at least 112 km without any CO2 emissions receive 35% of the purchase price up to a maximum of GBP4,500.
- Vehicles which emit less than 50g of CO2/km and can travel at least 16 km without any CO2 emissions receive 35% of the purchase price up to a maximum of GBP2,500.
- Vehicles which emit between 50g and 75g of CO2/km and can travel at least 32 km without any CO2 receive 35% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of GBP2,500.
- Motorcycles with no CO2 emissions and can travel at least 50km between changes will receive 20% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of GBP1,500.
- Vans which emit 75g or less of CO2/km and can travel at least 16km without any CO2 emissions receive 20% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of GBP8,000.
